Attend Engage Advocacy Support Group
Engage Life’s Choices is creating social change towards a healthy and safe community that fosters an environment that continues to keep you safe. Acknowledging the profound impact of a peer-to-peer group, ELC makes a conscious effort to actively engage a person who has or has had thoughts of suicide with our Engage Advocacy Group. ELC will provide optimal instructional support and informational resources to anyone seeking to better educate their self or peers on mental health and wellness issues. Our support and resources include guidance, materials, financial assistance, and various services provided through local and national resources.
The Engage Advocacy Group strives to reduce the stigma that often surrounds suicide, and promote wellness and health by increasing awareness, coordinating interactive events, and providing mental health/wellness resources and support.

You are not in this alone. Connect with other individuals dealing with the same pressures we all have: relationships, adjusting to life adversities, family pressures, and mental health struggles. Engage Life’s Choices is committed to changing the conversation and notion about the effects of suicide by helping you feel your best and removing the stigma surrounding mental health. We will provide guest speakers, information tables, and outreach programs to help one another to manage mental health and find help when needed.
Become an Engage Advocate
Do you want to become an Engage Advocate to help those who may need it?
Do you possess these key skills?

Be Present and Open
Show up, engage and participate. They say that showing up is half the battle, but when you do show up, it’s crucial to be fully present, proactive and to take initiative. Be prepared to share your experiences, both positive and negative. You should be open and honest and be willing to make time to offer advice, but also realize that people have different perspective and backgrounds, no two life paths are the same.

Listen
Listen first! Think of yourself as a life coach. A good mentor always navigates the other to a solution or a next step; they don’t solve it for them. Help to remove roadblocks and alternatively, create bridges for them. Also understand that they are not you, so they will want and/or need to carve their own path. You don’t need to be a perfect, shining example either. Your failures and hardships throughout life and your career are just as valuable to them as are your successes. And realize, sometimes you are just there to listen.

Motivate and Inspire
Part of your role is inspiring others to reach their fullest potential and challenging their comfort zone. Help them achieve the uncomfortable. The key to success is to influence others to become strong, motivated, and confident. A little goes a long way and you’ll see how a small act can have a tremendous impact.

The Willingness to Establish Mutual Respect
The relationship should be based on mutual respect, trust and support. The partnership needs to foster acceptance and safety where both parties feel safe enough to communicate openly and take risks without the threat of being belittled, judged, and ridiculed.
